Introducing Nexus, Florida’s Newest Club Drug

Sure, Miami has the most glamorous club scene out of anywhere in Florida, but you can find a smorgasbord of drugs even in little towns that no one has ever heard of. In November 2024, undercover police officers communicated with Elijah Barney and discussed buying drugs from him. When they met to conclude the deal, the police badges came out, and police arrested Barney. An officer read him his Miranda rights, meaning that he knew he had the right not to answer questions, but Barney then told the officer that there were drugs in his house. The resulting search yielded a veritable cornucopia of controlled substances. Officers found THC in every form you can imagine, from marijuana leaves to vape cartridges to oil to wax. There was also enough lean to make a Florida summer float by slowly, but most notable were the psychedelics. Barney’s stash included the usual psychedelics, such as LSD, MDMA, and psilocybin mushrooms, but he also has 28 doses of 2C-B, a synthetic psychedelic that has only recently begun making an appearance in Florida in the clubs and on the street. If you are facing charges for possession of 2C-B or another psychedelic drug, contact a Tampa drug crime lawyer.
What Makes 2C-B Different From Other Drugs?
2C-B, also known as Nexus, is a synthetic psychedelic that differs only slightly from the other synthetic psychedelics synthesized by Alexander Shulgin in the 1970s. Shulgin experimented to create dozens of different drugs that he hoped would have medical uses, specifically in the treatment of psychiatric disorders. He documented all of these in the book Phenethylamines I Have Known and Loved, and while none of them have gotten legal approval as pharmaceutical drugs, some of them have gained a following on the recreational drug scene. One of these is 2-C, also known as Tuci; another one is 2-CB. Since 2C-B is not legally approved for any medical uses, it is a Schedule I controlled substance.
A Drug as Illegal as Heroin, Even Though No One Has Fatally Overdosed
Most recreational use of 2C-B takes place in dance clubs, where people seek it out as a less expensive alternative to MDMA, also known as ecstasy. Some of the Nexus pills seized in drug busts have borne heart-shaped stamps, in reference to their reputation as an empathogen like MDMA. Other stashes of Nexus have been in powder form; buyers might press the powder into pills, or they might sell it in powder form so that buyers can snort it like cocaine; consider that Tuci, a close cousin of Nexus, is sometimes called pink cocaine. The effects of Nexus are stronger when you snort it than when you take it orally as pills, but it is also notoriously painful to snort 2C-B powder.
