What Happens When Influencer Antics Attract The Attention Of Police?

TeenLockUp2

Probable cause is a less precise concept than it might seem to be if you have only heard about it on police procedural dramas and true crime podcasts. In most circumstances, police cannot search a person’s property without a search warrant, and the court will not issue a search warrant unless law enforcement officers demonstrate that there is sufficient evidence that, if they search the property to which they are seeking access, they will find specific evidence of a specific crime. Vehicles that police stop on the road are the exception to the rule about search warrants. Police can search a car during a traffic stop without a warrant, simply by claiming that there is probable cause. These instances are more ambiguous, and defendants sometimes prevail by arguing that there was no valid reason for the police to conduct the traffic stop or to search the car. If your interaction with a police officer began in traffic, and things quickly went from bad to worse until you were facing criminal charges, contact a Tampa criminal defense lawyer.

Social Media Personality Arrested on Drug Charges While Performing Stunt for YouTube Channel

Plenty of teens film themselves engaging in dangerous behavior in traffic in order to impress their friends or in the hopes of getting their big break as social media stars. Once kids get to be old enough for a driver’s license, the bottle flips and back handsprings give way to motor vehicle-related stunts. Jack Doherty is 22 years old; he has been driving long enough that simply filming himself driving fast is not interesting enough for him or for the sizable audience of his YouTube channel.

In November 2025, something went on behind the scenes that persuaded Doherty that viewers would be tickled pink if he stood in the middle of a public road in Miami-Dade County. He was standing there when police officers arrived to ask him why. An officer told him to get out of the road, since he was causing a public hazard. Doherty refused, saying that he would only leave after completing a bet. Presumably, the bet involved standing in the road for a certain period of time.

Doherty’s refusal amounted to resisting an officer, and this led to a search of Doherty’s vehicle. Police found half an orange pill and three hand-rolled cigarettes. The cigarettes turned out to be cannabis, and the pill turned out to be amphetamine, in a formulation that doctors sometimes prescribe to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Doherty is now facing charges for resisting an officer and for possession of controlled substances. He was booked into jail and released later the same day. If convicted of all his charges, he could face a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
