Kids Put the Brakes on Parents’ Florida Vacation Fun, Leading to Drug Charges
In the summer of 2026, four friends rented a cabin in Franklin County, Florida. With their children in tow, they traveled from various locations in Missouri and Illinois and converged at their vacation rental property, four adults and seven children in a house far from Florida’s most popular tourist destinations. The children, who ranged in age from two to 16, considered it a boring vacation; they would have preferred to be home with their devices. The adults, meanwhile, brought their favorite substances.
One of the teens called the police about the situation, leading to the arrest of all four adults. When law enforcement arrived at the cabin, they found cannabis, synthetic marijuana, MDMA, methamphetamine, and cocaine in varying amounts. Police also found a firearm at the house; news reports did not say which of the defendants it belonged to and whether he or she possessed it legally. The defendants, three men and a woman, ranging in age from 40 to 46, are facing charges for drug possession with intent to distribute, as well as child endangerment, since the children were in a house where people were allegedly manufacturing illegal drugs. Prosecutors allege that the defendants intended to manufacture crack cocaine and resell it. Meanwhile, the Department of Children and Families took the children to a shelter while the adults were in jail. Extended family members came to pick up the children and bring them back to their home states the following day. The criminal case will proceed in Florida.
