Sheriff’s Deputies Seize Pill Presses And MDMA After Executing Search Warrant

PillPress2

From a legal perspective, MDMA is a Schedule I controlled substance, always illegal and never permissible for medical use. By this logic, it is just like heroin. To some people, though, MDMA is a wonder drug. A tiny dose might be able to cure post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or opioid addiction. Cannabis is still officially a Schedule I controlled substance, after all, and there are many legal loopholes that allow for its medical use, or even its recreational use, without criminal penalties. There have also been studies to investigate the potential of LSD, which is also a Schedule I controlled substance, as a treatment for psychiatric illnesses, but it stands to reason that MDMA is a better choice, because its effects are far less terrifying. A tiny grain of MDMA gets you a long night of good mood, so imagine what you can do with a kilogram of MDMA. A quadrillion cuddles, perchance? If you are facing criminal charges for possessing more MDMA than one could reasonably need for a night of dancing in the strobe lights and chomping Sweet Tarts, contact a Tampa drug crime lawyer.

MDMA Distribution Operation Eludes Law Enforcement Until It Doesn’t

Many dominoes must fall between when police suspect that drug deals are taking place at a house and when they can enter the residence and search for drugs. Pursuant to the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution, police cannot search private property unless a court issues a search warrant; vehicle searches at traffic stops are an exception, because police can search the vehicle if they have probable cause, such as if there are illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia in plain sight.

For several months, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office deputies observed people making frequent visits to a house, ostensibly to buy drugs, but by the time they could get a warrant, the suspected drug house had moved. Eventually, they got a warrant before the residents could close up shop and move to a new location. They found evidence of an MDMA distribution observation, as they had told the court, in the affidavit, that they expected to find. There were four pill presses and more than a kilogram of MDMA, enough to make hundreds, if not thousands, of MDMA pills. They also found two firearms and small quantities of other drugs, such as cannabis, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

The deputies arrested three men on charges of drug distribution. Two of the defendants are father and son. The third defendant, who is not a family member of the other two, is also facing charges for child endangerment, because his minor child was in the house with him when the deputies executed the search warrant.
