Police Arrest Hernando County Man For Possession Of Ketamine-Stuffed Candles

Candles4

There are plenty of perfectly legal reasons that someone would buy a lot of candles. Perhaps the buyer is in the business of hosting birthday parties for the elderly, who are plentiful in Florida. Maybe the owner of many candles would rather host parties for creatures whose life span is much shorter than that of Florida’s storied population of human seniors; if you want moths to attend your party, candles are the best way to accomplish this. Perhaps the buyer is the parent of a two-year-old who refuses to eat unless every meal is a birthday celebration, with candles and the singing of “Happy Birthday,” even if the candles are affixed to toast, a baked potato, or some other savory food. Buying candles does not necessarily mean buying illegal drugs, except when it does. A Florida man is facing drug charges after a search of his residence yielded candles filled with illegal drugs, allegedly intended for resale. If you are being accused of hiding illegal drugs inside an apparently innocuous household object, contact a Tampa drug crime lawyer.

Grandma’s Favorite Christmas Gift on the Outside, Generation Z’s Favorite Drug on the Inside

Most people who receive shipments of candles from foreign addresses are frugal grandmas who love filling their homes with pretty colored pillars of wax that give off pleasant scents when their wicks are illuminated, but that is not how things went with a shipment of candles discovered during a police search of a residence in Spring Hill. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a house on Tiburon Drive on suspicion that they would find illegal drugs shipped to the tenant from outside the United States. The News Channel 8 website did not give any details about the investigation that yielded the information that enabled the Sheriff’s Office to obtain the search warrant. Law enforcement cannot get a warrant to search private property unless they provide a statement to the court detailing which evidence of which crime they think they will find there and what led them to believe that they would find the evidence.

The incriminating evidence the deputies found during the search was a package that had been mailed from China. Inside were 20 candles that had been hollowed out and filled with small bags full of white crystals. Forensic testing in a crime lab revealed that the crystals were ketamine, a dissociative drug that can legally be administered by anesthesiologists, but which is also a popular drug of abuse. The search yielded more than 11 pounds of ketamine. The tenant of the residence, a 36-year-old man, is now facing charges for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and for possession of drug paraphernalia.
