Illegal Distribution Of Pharmaceuticals That Are Not Controlled Substances

Drug_Testosterone

The risks associated with pharmaceutical drugs determine whether pharmacies or other retailers can legally sell them over the counter, or whether patients can only receive them by a doctor’s prescription, and a licensed pharmacist or pharmacy technician must dispense them directly to the patient, often requiring the patient to sign to receive the medication or present a photo ID. Thousands of medications require a doctor’s prescription, but only the drugs with the highest abuse potential are included on the various schedules of the Controlled Substances Act. For example, diabetes drugs like Januvia and Metformin are available by prescription only, because it is unsafe to take them without proper medical supervision; doing so could cause the patient’s blood sugar to become dangerously low. These drugs are not listed as controlled substances, though, because reducing one’s blood sugar does not cause pleasurable intoxication; therefore, people do not use diabetes medications recreationally. The drugs listed as controlled substances are those prized on the black market for their stimulant, narcotic, or hallucinogenic effects. If you are not a doctor or pharmacist, and you sell prescription drugs, you can still get criminal penalties, even if the drugs are not controlled substances. If you are facing criminal charges related to the illegal distribution of drugs not restricted enough to count as controlled substances, contact a Tampa drug crime lawyer.

Palm Beach County Man Arrested for Selling Hormonal Medications Under False Pretenses

Just when you thought that South Florida had lived down its reputation as the land of shady pharmacies, law enforcement busted Broadway Health, a strip mall pharmacy in Lantana. Anyone who thinks that opioid pain medications are the only kind of prescription drug people would want to buy illegally has little media literacy. People are eager to buy all kinds of prescription drugs without a prescription, either because they know that what they are doing is so dangerous that no doctor would approve it or because they trust Dr. Google and Dr. Facebook more than they trust those chumps who graduated from medical school. People try to get around the rules to buy prescription drugs that will help them lose weight or make them more attractive to potential partners, or even to treat serious illnesses without involvement from the medical establishment.

Law enforcement received tips about the illegal sale of prescription drugs from Broadway Health, so they conducted an undercover operation. An undercover agent managed to buy the male sex hormone testosterone, the pregnancy hormone HCG, and the estrogen-suppressing drug anastrozole, which is used to treat breast cancer, among other illnesses. Frank Haberle, who dispensed the drugs, is now facing criminal charges for practicing medicine without a license. If convicted, he could face five years in prison.
